About Cabanas

Cabanas is a small picturesque resort, only 3 kilometres from the town of Tavira

Cabanas is situated within the Ria Formosa, a nature reserve of outstanding beauty, protected by sandy white barrier islands and natural dunes.  Central to Cabanas is an amazing natural lagoon of great natural beauty where you can take a short crossing (1 min) by one of the many taxi boats to one of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve, where the golden sands seem to go on forever.

It's a great location for holidaying, swimming, walking, cycling, fishing and bird watching. (bicycles and fishing equipment are available for hire in the village).

Cabanas village offers an excellent choice    of eating out; from some great restaurants serving fantastic local dishes, to the Portuguese bars and cafes, many of which run along the pretty promenade and have beautiful lagoon and sea views.  In the evenings, you can enjoy the Portuguese calendar of social events; carnivals,   festivals and arts and crafts.  Facilities include everything you would need for a  good stay - supermarket, bank, post office, pharmacy, general shops and an excellent daily market where you can buy the best fresh local produce.

Transport links are easy and excellent.   There is a train station, good bus links and you   can access car hire or bicycle hire   from the  village or just take a taxi.

East of the village, towards the Spanish border, lie the popular larger resorts of Manta Rota and Monte Gordo.  Both offer plenty to see and do and have excellent beaches.  West of Cabanas village is the beautiful town of, Tavira with its stunning architecture, roman bridge, riverside shops and restaurants. (Car hire is available in Cabanas village).

One ‘must have’ experience would be a visit to the waterfalls en route to Cachopo, North of Tavira, where surrounded by amazing scenery, you can swim in the emerald waters.
